There's a time you put aside for dreaming
And a time for things you have to do.
And a time for things you have to do.
~From Carol Burnett's signature sign-off song,
"I'm So Glad We Had This Time Together"
"I'm So Glad We Had This Time Together"
By her then-husband Joe Hamilton
Growing up our family watched "The Carol Burnett Show." Was that on Wednesday nights? Probably. In those days we went to church on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Because of the recent activity in the Loop (FYI: that's how I'll be referring to our new, Move #20 home place), that slender, funny, formerly buck-toothed redhead came to mind. Not her most popular parody of Scarlet O'Hara attired in the emerald velvet drapes-turned-dress. No, not that one, but the show's conclusion-Carol where she's garbed as a washer woman with bucket and mop props.

Which is why today I bring you a new route here on Kelley Highway: Cruising the Loop. Ideally, the perfection tour would be mapped out-- from front door to garage, from lowest floor to highest-- but I don't live in an ideal world. Instead the first introduction to my new home (an ?11-13? year old townhouse possessing not one, not two, but three flights of stairs) is the kitchen.
Thanks to Hot Lips, who snatched up the new Sony-a camera and captured these images, here are some of last week's scenes from KP here at the Loop with (drumroll, please)...
the Other Carol Burnett.
Things (I) have to do...
My Team Mates
From left starting with me on the floor,
Oldest sister Sharon; her younger sister (standing on floor) Angelique;
middle sister (on countertop) Annie
KITCHEN WALLS: Tiled in a buttery cream and, every few feet, slap dab in the middle of the wall, is an occasional 'accent' tile
I'll share the lovely little darlings that depict blue flower pots and, *clearing throat* flowers as we cruise the Loop.
WINDOW TREATMENT: Roman shade
We're scrubbing, painstakingly scrubbing the cabinets, inside and outside.
We are very hard workers indeed.
There's a time you put aside for dreaming... (PLANS)
-- {Done} Install a middle shelf in all the lower cabinets. There were none.
-- Have the following made in at least two of the lower cabinets. Not the full three shelves because I have a drainpipe issue in one, and a door issue in the other. I just want to do that lowest, pull-out shelf.
Better Homes and Gardens
-- Replace the old cabinet handles with stainless spoon/fork handles. Typically, table knives aren't used at the Filipino table, so the spoons and forks are a nod to the local culture.
-- Somehow hide the little darlings 'accent' tiles with ?framed photos? so I can have my loved ones' faces nearby when I'm in the kitchen.
-- Somehow hide the deco tile that surrounds the kitchen window.
-- Replace the window treatment.
-- There are three drawers in the kitchen; the two lower drawers are deep. The top drawer will be ideal for various sizes of ziptop bags and various wraps. (I am Queen Ziptop.) I plan to have a removable divider made like the photo below for the middle drawer. If it can't be made removable, it will have to stay with the townhouse when we vacate.

Any tips, Leslie?
Before I go, a word of gratitude for my kitchen appliances. Two words, actually.
~ Ladies Ministries ~
Ladies Ministries is a vital component of our church organization's family. Ladies Ministries provides household appliances for all its foreign missionary living overseas.
These handsome fellas didn't sell me a blue range.
That's protective film.
* Electric oven
* Two electric burners; four gas burners
LaGermania brand; Made in Italy
I am personally deeply grateful for every church ladies' team that bakes and sells pies and cakes and goodies, prepares spaghetti dinners, makes and sells crafts-- you name it-- so missionaries like me can enjoy a nice range/oven, an efficient refrigerator, and an automatic washer and dryer. Ladies, you're the greatest!
Whirlpool refrigerator/freezer; Made in China
(The side-by-side style I prefer is only one inch too wide!)
Next time we're on the Loop, we're scrubbing floors. Here in Manila, it's the smog that makes that job back-breaking murder. Oh, my aching muscles.
"Good night, everybody" (tugging on left ear), which today is, by the way, Air Mattress #27.

It's great that you have plenty of help to get things done in The Loop. We live in a townhouse too... my husband has had it for a while before we got married so when I moved in after we did, it was already uh... err... "lived in" (a.k.a. furnished but of course not in my style, and messy... very very messy). Five years into our marriage and the house is still not how I want it to be *sigh* Hope you get things in order soon.
Sweet...,
I love love LOVE Carol Burnett! And Wow - you are all really HARD workers!
Thanks for your comment - as I read about your husband and his great cheating scores it reminded me of the first time my husband met my family. We were just barely engaged and traveled from the west to the east to spend a little time with them before we got married. That first night we pulled out games and started playing. Midway through the game my fiancé jumped up, threw his cards down and hollered "I will NOT play with cheaters!" then stomped out of the room. We had about 3 seconds of silence, then got right back into the game. It took him days to realize he was still in love with me :)
S.S.
Your fiancé = me
You/Your fam = my hubby/his fam!
I was wondering how you were sleeping on the air mattress. Now I know ~ you work until you're so exhausted you can sleep anywhere!
Kelley,
Moving is always a bit crazy. Before you know it, it will feel like home. Great that you had so much help. I loved the Carol Burnett show too. The green drapery dress episode is a classic!
Reading this book took me back. If you watched these programs when you hear her talk about them it takes you back to that day when you saw her come down the stairs in the curtains an you fall out in the floor.
