Mail Kalikimaka circa 2009

One cannot collect
all the beautiful shells on the beach.
One can collect only a few,
and they are more beautiful
if they are few.
~Anne Morrow Lindbergh,
Gift from the Sea (1955)

Post Preface:  Here's a shout out to all my new Kelley Highway roadies! I appreciate the follow, and I'm enjoying checking out your blogs as well!

As a roadie on Kelley Highway, you know that I've been making progress in my efforts to bring the Guest Suite from a state of sourness to suite-ness!  In so doing, I came across Mail Kalikimaka circa 2009.

Cindy is my bosom friend.  We are sisters from different mothers.  We think alike.  We see alike.  We finish each other's sentences.  We can read each other's mind.  Oh, how I miss my sweet Cindy.

And when I discover gems like these, salt's poured into the missing Cindy wound.

I received this Christmas gift just as we were sealing the boxes during Move #18 on Guam.  Sweet memories of my life on our beloved island where America's day begins... where the Pacific Ocean greets the Philippine Sea... flowed back over the shores of my mind.

Find a beautiful glass bowl, clean it until sparkling- and place some dry sand and beautiful sea glass or pebbles of various sizes in the bottom.  Arrange your sea treasures artfully in your miniature "seashore terrarium."  I've enclosed a few treasures I've found in places that have been a special part of my life and I know have been a part of yours as well - California, Hawaii, and the Philippines.

And they are so tiny! I didn't really get how tiny they were until you put it on your finger.

I really love that quote. That book has been praised by several folks I know. It's one I keep intending to look for.

I love the tiny starfishes! I've never seen one that tiny before. Do share when you put together your terrarium.

I was so suprized to open your blog and see my handwriting! Tears. Sea shells are forever treasures. I am ever amazed at the patterns, the colors, the textures, of God's many wonderful works. What an artist our God is! I love how you are so sentimental about your treasures...as of course you know I am.

I'm going to send you a photo of my shell collection collage. I know you will very artfully...and simply arrange your sea treasures into your miniature sea terrarium. I wanted to send the vase, but the packing to Guam was a bit challenging, hoping it would arrive in one piece, so you know the size you will need to create yours.

You are a joy, and your kind words a blessing. I cherish your friendship. I thank God for you Kelley!
