Blow the dust off the clock.
Your watches are behind the times.
Throw open the heavy curtains
which are so dear to you -
you do not even suspect that the day
has already dawned outside.
~Aleksandr Sozhenitsyn
This clock's led nearly nine lives since it was gifted to us in 2004. It is handmade from ikat fabric from Indonesia, (in the Philippines it's called batik, I think?), wood and brass pieces. It was purchased for us in Davao on Mindanao Island, Philippines.
2011, in a new outfit
Below, I caught a glimpse of this clock
in a 2004 photo from our life in the Mission House.
Black frame
It was relocated here in 2005.

See the clock?
In this photo, below, you can see the reflection of the clock in the Guam house's hall restroom mirror. See that dark middle ring? The hands on the clock are also black, so this clock has always been very difficult to read.
The clock's new location is in our master bedroom above the door to the master bath. To give the clock a new outfit and make it easier to read, I first disassembled it. With scrapbook paper very near the shade of the rest of the clock's face, I "tore" a round. With a couple dots of Aileene's Tacky Glue I glued the round over the dark inner ring.
I rewired the 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock brass pieces in the existing holes. I didn't replace the other bells after taking them off and couldn't care less that removing them left holes.
After spray painting the frame and cleaning the glass,
I re-assembled the beautiful 'new' clock
and hung it back up on the wall.
NOW we can see perfectly
the hands of this very special time piece!

Nice makeover! So good to brighten up an old, beloved piece that keeps the memories but over time (no pun intended) shows some lack. Love the new do and glad you're able to tell the time again.
Joy!
